01 A Good Place to Begin - Part 1
John 1:1-2
Pastor Monte opens the new year by “starting at the beginning”—the prologue of John’s Gospel (John 1:1–18)—to show that Christmas doesn’t end at Bethlehem. He highlights John’s central aim: to make Christ known as the eternal Word (Logos) who was with God and was God, the Creator and the true Light who entered the darkness.
From that foundation, the sermon presses a worship-centered response: if Jesus is truly Emmanuel—God with us—then our lives must reflect His “weightiness” (glory) the way the shepherds did in Luke 2. Pastor Monte calls the church to examine its worship in practical terms: Do you truly belong to Christ? Are you joyful and satisfied in Him? Are you confident in His rule and providence? He closes by connecting knowing Christ to living worship—joyful fellowship with Him, devoted obedience to His Word, and loving service within His church.
